Kyle lost his job. At a temp agency, so that means no unemployment. The agency says they might have another customer service position at the start of next year. It pays better, but it's not a guarantee, and that still leaves us without a month of income. We can get through the month of December without a problem. We have < $200 left in our savings account, and fortunately we now have a roommate.
That leaves us with no way to pay the bills that hit the first week of January. $300 worth of bills we have never, ever, ever once been late on. I think to myself, thank god we've been diligently paying off the credit card. We at least have that cushion where if we have to, we can charge a few things.
Then I get a letter from Mastercard, saying that because of something that's on my credit report (THAT IS ONLY ON THE EQUIFAX, WAS PAID IN FULL OVER A YEAR AGO, AND I CAN'T GET THEM TO TAKE OFF AND CAN'T AFFORD A FUCKING LAWYER TO FIGHT THEM) they dropped our credit limit. To right where we've paid them off. Goodbye safety net.
Oh, and I forgot that both cars need to be registered. That's $79 each by Dec. 30.
And the check engine light just came on in the Hyundai.
ETA: Took the Hyundai to Autozone for their engine light check. He said it's a fuel sensor that is often caused by the gas cap. He took a look at our cap and found the seal mostly gone. So, fingers crossed, $7 for a new cap fixes it. IF that is the fix, it can take up to 100 miles before the car figures it out and the light goes off. |
